What is the MIGRANT feeding program?
The past several years have seen a large influx of migrants fleeing to Ecuador in search of security and better opportunities. These migrants come predominantly from Venezuela, which is undergoing a severe economic crisis marked by hyperinflation, shortages of food and medicine, and political turmoil. Other migrants come from Brazil, Colombia and Peru, where various factors such as economic inequality, violence and lack of opportunities drive them to seek a better life.
In response, Divine Word Missionaries at Maria Madre de la Iglesia Parish near Ecuador's border with Peru have been running a weekly feeding program for nearly four years, providing hot meals, basic medical assistance and hygienic care items to migrants traveling through the region. Every Saturday, a dedicated team of 12 to 15 parish volunteers serves an average of 150 meals to migrants from various countries.
This special program offers migrants not only nourishment, but also a sense of refuge and community. The mission extends beyond feeding the hungry; it strives to bring hope and compassion, seeing the face of Christ in the pain and struggles of these vulnerable people.
We ask that you consider supporting this mission and playing a part in providing critical aid and comfort to those in desperate need as they journey towards a safe and dignified life.
